Shilajit has been found in the high mountains of the Himalaya, Russia, Siberia, the United States, and Saudi Arabia, and Afghanistan. Momiji (means ‘saving body’ or ‘protecting organism’) as in shilajit found in the Altai mountains of Russia has also been called as the ‘lungs of the mountains’ by some people. Russian bodybuilders used momijo to build endurance strength and muscle. The Burmese call it Kao-tui which implies ‘blood of the mountains’ and the Tibetans call it brag-shun meaning ‘juice of rock’. Himalayan shilajit develops over centuries from the slow decomposition of plants and stone sweat (called in Arabic as arakul-dzhibol – ‘sweat of mountains’) when the ice melts. The high content of minerals, and 30-70% of the fulvic and humic acid (%age varies depending on the height and processing) in Himalayan Shilajit, promotes blood flow and CoQ10.
